Tsunami? Here in MA We Didn’t Even Get Our Feet Wet

Dear Editor~

Tsunami, huh here in the Commonwealth we barely got our feet wet, Democrats aren’t enthusiastic, clearly that prediction was wrong. For all of the huffing and puffing the state wide delegation for the Republicans came up short. Not because the voters of MA will vote for anyone with a D behind their name any political person knows the truth here, no party has a majority.

We have to remember a lot of unenrolled voters helped the Democratic ticket to their success on Tuesday, what do the Republicans have to say to them? I would assume nothing since your guy Scott may need them in 2012. Folks who are paying attention always vote their best interest, and the other side never provided a plan that made them the better choice. Both sides made some mis-steps but we are all human and that’s what humans do, but only one statewide race even came close no matter how you spell it that is a statement.

Of course this morning all the talking heads on radio who claim to be Independent but are nothing more than PR shills for the Republican Party are eating crow. They were so confident in their hate speech they actually broadcasted from the House of Blues where Charlie Baker held his election night party. How do these people spell fair and balanced, not very well, but in hindsight using the House of Blue(s) wasn’t such a good idea.

So today they don’t want to talk about the smack down here in MA, they, who were so wrong think we should listen to them analyze the national races. Look, what happened last night has happened to every first term President going back to Regan. They may have more seats in the house, but it is not veto proof so now for the first time in two years they will have to work! OMG such a four letter word, but they can’t overturn healthcare so get over it stop looking back and figure out how to get America back to work, and end two wars that are draining our economy.

Or don’t and in two years the same people will happily turn the tide the other way.

Where are these new innovative ideas they claim they have been waiting to put into action? There was no Tsunami last night no rejection, no message just the hope by some that the party of “no” might roll up their sleeves and get the heck to work. If the projects are sound I am sure the Democrats will work with them.

However the people should have no patience for them wanting to go back and fight the civil war, move forward and get this country back on track.

Does your green ever cover your black?

Black Rapper gets arrested and tested fails drug test goes back to prison even though he as a job has had other problems but no more or less than others.

White girl fails drug test on her umpteenth time in rehab and prison, thumbs her nose at authority while wearing ankle bracelet and when it goes off lies and says someone spilled a drink on it. Hasn’t taken any opportunity seriously. White girl gets caught with cocaine in her purse, LIES about it being her purse or coke even though she is known for stashing it in her vajajay when she travels and neither of them do any time, they are sick the black man is a criminal. I guess even when you have money that green isn’t enough to cover your black.

Young voter Wall Street and Chamber have shown you what they think of your future

Young voters who turned out in 2008 but think two years is too long for a turn around need to be made to understand that fixing the mess the GOP has made for the last eight years can’t be done that quickly but gains have been made, and if they want change then they need to be part of that agenda and turn out and vote. Did you really think making President Obama the Commander-in-Chief was the last step to a change process, well it isn’t, it is the first step and they need to take the next one down the road so we can keep moving forward. What do you think would have happened to the civil rights movement if blacks stopped voting when something didn’t go their way? The country lost 65K jobs last month. In the last month of the Bush Presidency we were loosing half a million jobs a month, that is progress and if we return good people to the house we can finish the job.

If not then count on more tax cuts for the wealthy, which if you missed the NYT’s article yesterday went from making 19 million in 2008 to 519 million today. That is the top 74 wage earners making more combined than 19 million of the lowest wage earners and they don’t even want them to have health!

Young people if you think these GOP/tea baggers have your back you are delusional and need to check your facts. If you can’t find a job they are happy for you to be cannon fodder in their war, and then like Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts won’t even vote you a raise for risking your life so they can keep gays from serving. Is that what you care about? Is that the country you wanted to be part of building? I don’t think so, change goes to those who show up!

President Obama Will Triumph — So Will America
By: FRANK SCHAEFFER (Frank Schaeffer is a New York Times best selling author.)

Date: Wednesday, August 25, 2010, 3:42 PM – Full Text

Before he’d served even one year President Obama lost the support of the easily distracted left and engendered the white hot rage of the hate-filled right. But some of us, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds — including this white, straight, 57-year- old, former religious right wing agitator, now progressive writer and (given my background as the son of a famous evangelical leader) this unlikely Obama supporter — are sticking with our President.

Why?– because he is succeeding. We faithful Obama supporters still trust our initial impression of him as a great, good and uniquely qualified man to lead us. President Obama’s steady supporters will be proved right. Obama’s critics will be remembered as easily panicked and prematurely discouraged at best and shriveled hate mongers at worst.

The Context of the Obama Presidency

Not since the days of the rise of fascism in Europe , the Second World War and the Depression has any president faced more adversity. Not since the Civil War has any president led a more bitterly divided country. Not since the introduction of racial integration has any president faced a more consistently short- sighted and willfully ignorant opposition – from both the right and the left.

As the President’s poll numbers have fallen so has his support from some on the left that were hailing him as a Messiah not long ago; all those lefty websites and commentators that were falling all over themselves on behalf of our first black president during the 2008 election.

The left’s lack of faith has become a self-fulfilling “prophecy”– snipe at the President and then watch the poll numbers fall and then pretend you didn’t have anything to do with it! Here is what Obama faced when he took office– none of which was his fault:

# An ideologically divided country to the point that America was really two countries

# Two wars; one that was mishandled from the start, the other that was unnecessary and immoral

# The worst economic crisis since the depression

# America ‘s standing in the world at the lowest point in history

# A country that had been misled into accepting the use of torture of prisoners of war

# A health care system in free fall

# An educational system in free fall

# A global environmental crisis of history-altering proportions (about which the Bush administration and the Republicans had done nothing)

# An impasse between culture warriors from the right and left

# A huge financial deficit inherited from the terminally irresponsible Bush administration.

And those were only some of the problems sitting on the President’s desk! “Help” from the Right? What did the Republicans and the religious right, libertarians and half-baked conspiracy theorists — that is what the Republicans were reduced to by the time Obama took office — do to “help” our new president (and our country) succeed?

They claimed that he wasn’t a real American, didn’t have an American birth certificate, wasn’t born here, was secretly a Muslim, was white-hating “racist”, was secretly a communist, was actually the Anti-Christ, (!) and was a reincarnation of Hitler and wanted “death panels” to kill the elderly!

They not-so-subtly called for his assassination through the not-so- subtle use of vile signs held at their rallies and even a bumper sticker quoting Psalm 109:8. (Forgetting prayer works both ways)

They organized “tea parties” to sound off against imagined insults and all government in general and gathered to howl at the moon.

They were led by insurance industry lobbyists and deranged (but well financed) “commentators” from Glenn Beck to Rush Limbaugh.

The utterly discredited Roman Catholic bishops teamed up with the utterly discredited evangelical leaders to denounce a president who was trying to actually do something about the poor, the environment, to diminish the number of abortions through compassionate programs to help women and to care for the sick!

And in Congress, the Republican leadership only knew one word: “No!” In other words the reactionary white, rube, uneducated, crazy American far right, combined with the educated but obtuse neoconservative war mongers, religious right shills for big business, libertarian Fed Reserve-hating gold bug, gun-loving crazies, child-molesting acquiescent “bishops”, frontier loons and evangelical gay-hating flakes found one thing to briefly unite them: their desire to stop an uppity black man from succeeding at all costs!

“Help” from the Left? What did the left do to help their newly elected president? Some of them excoriated the President because they disagreed with the bad choices he was being forced to make regarding a war in Afghanistan that he’d inherited from the worst president in modern history!

Others stood up and bravely proclaimed that the President’s economic policies had “failed” before the President even instituted them! Others said that since all gay rights battles had not been fully won within virtually minutes of the President taking office, they’d been “betrayed”! (Never mind that Obama’s vocal support to the gay community is stronger than any other president’s has been. Never mind that he signed a new hate crimes law!)

Those that had stood in transfixed legions weeping with beatific emotion on election night turned into an angry mob saying how “disappointed” they were that they’d not all immediately been translated to heaven the moment Obama stepped into the White House! Where was the “change”? Contrary to their expectations they were still mere mortals!

And the legion of young new supporters was too busy texting to pay attention for longer than a nanosecond. “Governing”?! What the hell does that word, uh, like mean?”

The President’s critics left and right all had one thing in common: impatience laced with little-to-no sense of history (let alone reality) thrown in for good measure. Then of course there were the white, snide know-it-all commentators, i.e. talking heads who just couldn’t imagine that maybe, just maybe they weren’t as smart as they thought they were and certainly not as smart as their president. He hadn’t consulted them, had he? So he must be wrong!

The Obama critics’ ideological ideas defined their idea of reality rather than reality defining their ideas-say, about what is possible in one year in office after the hand that the President had been dealt by fate, or to be exact by the American idiot nation that voted Bush into office. twice! Meanwhile back in the reality-based community – in just 12 short months — President Obama:

#Continued to draw down the misbegotten war in Iraq (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Thoughtfully and decisively picked the best of several bad choices regarding the war in Afghanistan (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Gave a major precedent-setting speech supporting gay rights (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Restored America ‘s image around the globe (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Banned torture of American prisoners (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Stopped the free fall of the American economy (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Put the USA squarely back in the bilateral international community (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Put the USA squarely into the middle of the international effort to halt global warming
(But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Stood up for educational reform (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Won a Nobel peace prize (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Moved the trial of terrorists back into the American judicial system of checks and balances
(But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Did what had to be done to start the slow, torturous and almost impossible process of health care reform that 7 presidents had failed to even begin (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Responded to hatred from the right and left with measured good humor and patience (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Stopped the free fall of job losses (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Showed immense personal courage in the face of an armed and dangerous far right opposition that included the sort of disgusting people that show up at public meetings carrying loaded weapons and carrying Timothy McVeigh-inspired signs about the “blood of tyrants” needing to “water the tree of liberty.” (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

#Showed that he could not only make the tough military choices but explain and defend them brilliantly (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)

Other than those “disappointing” accomplishments — IN ONE YEAR — President Obama “failed”! Other than that he didn’t “live up to expectations”!

Who actually has failed……are the Americans that can’t see the beginning of a miracle of national rebirth right under their jaded noses. Who failed are the smart ass ideologues of the left and right who began rooting for this President to fail so that they could be proved right in their dire and morbid predictions. Who failed are the movers and shakers behind our obscenely dumb news cycles that have turned “news” into just more stupid entertainment for an entertainment-besotted infantile country.

Here’s the good news: President Obama is succeeding without the help of his lefty “supporters” or hate-filled Republican detractors! The Future Looks Good!

After Obama has served two full terms, (and he will), after his wisdom in moving deliberately and cautiously with great subtlety on all fronts — with a canny and calculating eye to the possible succeeds, (it will), after the economy is booming and new industries are burgeoning, (they will be), after the doomsayers are all proved not just wrong but silly: let the record show that not all Americans were panicked into thinking the sky was falling.

Just because we didn’t get everything we wanted in the first short and fraught year Obama was in office not all of us gave up. Some of us stayed the course. And we will be proved right.

PS. if you agree that Obama is shaping up to be a great president, please READ and hang in there! Poar it OTHER PLACES from email to Facebook, stc. to ensure that President Obama?s “report card” and record gets the attention it deserves.

Black America Wake Up and Vote

I have been complaining to everyone who will listen that sitting home because the choices aren’t perfect this mid-term is not the answer Democrats, but I have been especially frustrated by the black voter.

I was horrified when I turned on one of the President’s town hall meetings and saw a well dressed black woman rise and complain that she was “tired” of defending him. What!!! Shouldn’t you be tired of the people throwing mud unnecessarily! He shouldn’t have to be defended because no one in modern history has worked harder in that office, passed more legislation to help the middle class and he is having an honest and straight forward conversation with the public.

You should be proud of him, how did you think some segments of white America were going to treat the first black President?

I suggest to all of those out there who were up late election night drinking the champagne, singing we shall overcome and thinking quite incorrectly that this was some huge step towards ending racism in this country to seek some therapy because you are a little off course.

There are segments of this society who are racist and will go to their deaths being so, so let’s move on from that impossible dream and talk about something you can affect, the 2010 mid-term elections.

If I haven’t been eloquent enough or persuasive enough please pick up the current issue of Ebony and read Editor Kevin Chappell’s article on this subject, he has laid out the consequences clearly and perhaps with more patience than I can muster.

Please Black America stop letting Fixx News, Glen Beck and any other pundit Republican or Democrat (oh yes some of Clinton’s past advisors wondering if we miss him yet. Hell no we do not why would we choose the troubles of a philandering President over those of a decent family man and good husband. Whose choices down that road only caused him to make deals with a Republican house that have come back to bite us), take pride in this President he has earned it. This First Lady named by Forbes as the most powerful woman in the WORLD!

When is the last time a Democrat’s wife has been called that? Think JFK. We need to not only be the hope and change we are looking for, but we need to get a spine and along with that some clear vision. Why let others take anything away from our President? They have disrespected him, lied about the origins of his birth, maligned his wonderful and supportive wife, did everything they can to make his policies unsuccessful and therefore YOU unsuccessful as all of his efforts have been to help the struggling middle class.

To not vote on November 2, 2010 and make sure good house members are returned to DC makes you part of the problem, be part of the solution and prove everyone wrong, we can affect this election more than you did in 2008, so get just as dressed up, buy that bottle of champagne and help us celebrate a Democratic Victory!

Is President Obama Being Underestimated?

First Thoughts: Is D.C. underestimating Obama? Is Washington underestimating Obama?… But here’s a real test for the president: Can he get his voters out in states like Wisconsin, Illinois, and Pennsylvania?… Final jobs report before the midterms shows the economy lost 95,000 jobs and the unemployment steady at 9.6% (but private employers added 64,000 jobs)… Obama rails against outside group spending in twin events yesterday… The “W” word becomes an issue in the Brown-Whitman race… First Read’s Top 10 TV ads… No.1 on our list? Christine O’Donnell’s “I’m you” ad, and she’s now running a second ad on this theme… And another poll shows Rubio leading in Florida.

From NBC’s Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Ali Weinberg
*** A little counter C.W. with your Friday coffee: As President Obama draws 26,000 in Wisconsin, thousands yesterday in Maryland, and likely thousands in Philadelphia this weekend, it’s worth asking whether there’s a disconnect between how the president is perceived in Washington and how he’s perceived in other parts of the country. Beltway reporters and columnists often use these adjectives in describing the president: beleaguered, struggling, disappointing. And the Washington chatter of the week was whether he needs Hillary’s help for 2012. But here’s a reality check: Obama’s approval rating in the latest NBC/WSJ poll (46%) is just three points lower than George W. Bush’s in the survey right before he won a second term (49%). And despite all the problems (a sluggish economy, a sour public, and a brutal midterm landscape for Democrats), Obama still has a strong base propping him up (Democrats, liberals, blacks, Hispanics, and young voters).

*** The president’s real midterm test: Then again, the president has certainly served as a lightning rod in races across the country, especially former battleground states like Missouri (where Roy Blunt has tried to tie Obama to Robin Carnahan) and in places like West Virginia (where the NRSC had to take down that “hicky” ad tying the president to Joe Manchin). But the question — with 25 days until Election Day — is whether Obama has enough juice with his base in Wisconsin (where he was last week), Illinois (where he was last night), and Pennsylvania (where he’ll be on Sunday) to help Democratic candidates in those states. He can get these folks to come to his rallies, but can he get them to the polls? These three states may be the best test of whether the president has midterm juice — all three contain important (and apathetic?) parts of the Democratic Party’s base, and all are being fought over national issues.

*** The last jobs report: Of course, Obama doesn’t want to see more of these kinds of job numbers. In the final jobs report before the midterms, the Labor Department reported that a total of 95,000 were lost in September due to widespread government layoffs, the AP notes. The unemployment rate remains at 9.6%, but the private sector added 64,000 jobs. Six months ago, the White House and many Democrats believed the employment situation was going to be on an up-arrow trajectory by this last jobs report. Of course, it’s anything but. This flat-lining of the U.S. economy began right around the oil spill, as the double hit of the spill and the Greek debt crisis in Europe took away any hope economists had that the corporate world would begin to spend money again. Obama will discuss the economy at 11:40 am ET.

*** Mo money, mo problems: In twin appearances yesterday, Obama stressed all the outside money — some of it from abroad, he argued — impacting this year’s midterm races. Here was Obama at the rally in Maryland: “This is a threat to our democracy. The American people deserve to know who’s trying to sway their elections. And if we just stand by and allow the special interests to silence anybody who’s got the guts to stand up to them, our country is going to be a very different place.” And here he was in Illinois at a fundraiser for Alexi Giannoulias: “In this Senate race, two groups funded and advised by Karl Rove have outspent the Democratic Party two to one in an attempt to beat Alexi — two to one… Just this week, we learned that one of the largest groups paying for these ads regularly takes in money from foreign sources.” While it’s clear the White House wants to attention paid to how these groups are funded (and they are having a HUGE impact), it’s not an issue many voters believe is of a high priority. Many Democrats struggling in their re-election bids aren’t exactly jumping at the chance to talk about Citizens United. Instead, they’d prefer a cohesive economic message. Then again, the economy isn’t exactly a plus for the Democrats so many the White House is right about this.

*** The “W” word: Another day, another controversy in California’s gubernatorial contest. Here’s the L.A. Times: “In a private conversation that was inadvertently taped by a voicemail machine, an associate of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown can be heard referring to his Republican opponent Meg Whitman as a ‘whore’ for cutting a deal protecting law enforcement pensions as the two candidates competed for police endorsements.” Not surprisingly, the Whitman campaign jumped all over the remark in an effort to change the dynamics of a race that Brown is leading; Brown’s camp apologized for the remark. This story cuts several ways. First, it could help Whitman with a key demographic she’s trying to win over: educated women. Then again, it could undermine one of Whitman’s chief attacks on Brown — that he’s in the pocket of unions — because it suggests that Brown isn’t willing to cut a deal with a police union to protect their pensions. Short term: It’s a lifeline to Whitman as it changes the storyline, even for a day.

*** More O’Donnell ads (pro and con): Lo and behold, O’Donnell has a new TV ad that doubles down on the “I’m you” message. “I didn’t go to Yale,” she says to the camera. “I didn’t inherit millions like my opponent. I’m you.” Meanwhile, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has a new TV ad hitting O’Donnell. It goes, “Christine O’Donnell claims she’ll control Washington spending. But look at her record. She was sued for not paying her bills. Didn’t pay her taxes. Has a federal complaint filed against her for spending campaign funds on herself. If Christine O’Donnell wants to be irresponsible with her money- that’s her business. But she’s running for Senate- and being irresponsible with our money is our business.”

*** More midterm news: In Alabama, “Rep. Bobby Bright on Thursday became the first Democratic incumbent to say publicly that he would not support Nancy Pelosi for Speaker in the next Congress,” CQ reports… In Florida, a new Mason-Dixon poll shows Marco Rubio (R) with a comfortable lead in the state’s three-way Senate contest.

Countdown to Election Day 2010: 25 days

And the survey says!

Sex Survey is back and the world has changed, the youth who have grown up in the world of AIDS are using condoms and at a better rate than their senior counter parts.
We have had to deal with AIDS so why is using a condom not working with us older heart throbs? I suspect it is because most of us grew up in a time when not using them meant you just got pregnant at best, by today’s standards, maybe a dose of the clap. Embarrassing and uncomfortable but not fatal.

Then genital herpes came along and it was wiser to know your partner and try to be monogamous, AIDS should have been the bell weather to change our ways. The GLBT community although hit hard by AIDS has turned that around with education and now condoms are sexy. While at the DNC in 08 I was amazed by all of the colors and sizes being handed out by one group or another. Blue, hot pink large, some on sticks like lollipops others in cleaver packaging asking you to use it to protect yourself from Republicans.

I have to admit I am not a big fan, who brings them when you have an encounter, and if I as the woman decide to what will the guy think of me, stigmas do die hard. Then there is the purchase do you really need your twenty year old daughters best friend catching you purrusing the condom aisle, ugh!

The best part about the report, we are enjoying our sex lives more, people are having sex more often, they are experimenting and foreplay is no longer the butt of a joke.

In typical form however 85% of men say their last partner (and for the purpose of full disclosure this is female partners) had an orgasm during sex, while only 68% of the women said they had an orgasm the last time they had sex. Slight gap there that I am sure we can chalk that up to faking it or men just seeing what they want, but there is hope for us yet as human beings. Perhaps being good to one another in the bedroom will spread to being good to one another every where else, we can only hope.

Now You Get Mad

We had eight years of Bush and Cheney, but now you get mad!

You didn’t get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.
You didn’t get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.
You didn’t get mad when a covert CIA operative got ousted.
You didn’t get mad when the Patriot Act got passed..
You didn’t get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.
You didn’t get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said
illegal war.
You didn’t get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq .
You didn’t get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
You didn’t get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.
You didn’t get mad when we didn’t catch Bin Laden.
You didn’t get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
You didn’t get mad when we let a major US city drown.
You didn’t get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.
You didn’t get mad when, using reconciliation; a trillion dollars of our tax dollars were redirected to insurance companies for Medicare Advantage which cost over 20 percent more for basically the same services that Medicare provides.
You didn’t get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark, and our
debt hit the thirteen trillion dollar mark.
You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America
deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars,
lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich
richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans… oh hell no!

Don’t even think about not voting. That would be a definite betrayal of all we worked for to elect this President–who is making great strides against all odds.

Yes We Can!

Why Rand Paul is the wrong person for the Senate

Just when I think that AZ is the only problem on the horizon the Tuesday elections produce a primary “winner” in Rand Paul.
His father’s hateful spewing has been around for years and now the son is on the scene to perpetuate the myths of the father.
This morning father Paul was bemoaning his son being misunderstood, his comments taken the wrong way. The problem is we understood them all too well and I hope the good people of KY will rise up and send this man back to his private practice in November.
